In his own words, “rockin’ blues” or” punk blues” describes him best. “Ferocious blues” also fits. Legend has it that Chris will play so hard that his fingers bleed in a set. The legend is true. Photos attest. Chris Duarte is a road warrior playing more than 150 dates a year. As well, Chris has headlined major festivals and clubs throughout the US, Canada and Europe. Chris is a savant, a sorcerer of tone, a master at channeling the spirits and sounds of great musicians of our past, while remaining completely recognizable in his own sound. He has shared his stage with many of the greatest musicians of our time as well as the multitude of “young lions” and local musicians he meets on the road. From his many years as a side man in Austin, he easily changes roles from front to side, graciously allowing all to share the conversation of the jam. Chris Duarte’s music is ever changing. In many interviews, he has said “Music must evolve.” His own early offerings often become magical journeys into changing tempo and jazzy interludes before returning to their core. With such a vast catalog of recordings, there are no two shows alike. Every set list is different, and each song may be offered distinctly, based on the feel of a show and the audience. For those reasons, loyal fans often return to a Chris Duarte show again and again, and always walk away awed and satisfied to have witnessed such a legendary, but humble guitarist. The Chris Duarte Group emerged on the scene out of Austin, Texas in the early 90’s and gained notoriety after wowing a packed room of industry insiders at the South X Southwest convention. In the wake of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s passing, Duarte quickly gained a National reputation as young man imbued with a playing style comparable at times to the late guitarist. After fielding interest from a number of labels, Duarte signed to Silvertone Records and his debut album “Texas Sugar/Strat Magik” reportedly sold in excess of 100,000 units in the United States, no small feat for a blues/rock guitarist. This coupled with Duarte’s strong commitment to touring, was the impetus for Chris’ winning the “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s 1995 Reader’s Poll. He also finished fourth in the magazine’s “Best Blues Guitarist” category that year behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King. | 30 Vicki Barbolak6:00 pm Comedy $Ticketmaster cover Vicki BarbolakJanuary 30, 2025 @ 6:00 pm

2 Slim Man6:00 pm Smooth Jazz $www.ticketmaster.com cover Slim ManFebruary 2, 2025 @ 6:00 pm Slim Man won Best Jazz Vocalist in 2021 at the Coachella Music Awards. Fifth year in a row. Winner! Winner! Meatball dinner! The Slim Man LIVE at Vicky’s double CD won ALBUM OF THE YEAR at the Coachella Music Awards in 2021. And his new cookbook, Slim Man Cooks Volume 2, was just released in January 2022. So, how did Mr. Man get to this point? Here’s the skinny on Slim Man… Conceived on the Isle of Capri in Italy, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland. When he was 5 years old, Slim Man saw a movie with his dad. That film was The Five Pennies, and when Slim Boy saw Louis Armstrong play the trumpet and sing, he told his Dad, ”That’s what I want to do.” Slim Man studied trumpet for the next 9 years, and taught himself how to play piano and guitar. After studying piano, composition, and harmony at Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD, Slim Man got signed as a songwriter to Motown Records. He’s had songs recorded by the Temptations, Angela Bofill, Carl Anderson, and others. Slim Man recorded a CD for Motown, which gave birth to his signature style–a unique blend of jazz, soul, and pop. Slim Man went on to form the band BootCamp, who had two of the first 100 videos ever played on MTV. Those videos catapulted BootCamp into a successful concert career, performing with The B-52s, Squeeze, Split Enz, Johnny Winter, and others. After BootCamp broke up, Slim Man organized and hosted a nationwide country music talent contest. It was during this contest that he got the nickname Slim Man. Slim’s big discovery during the contest was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at a honkytonk called Tulsa City Limits. The guy who won the contest that night was Ronnie Dunn, who went on to win the national finals in Nashville, and later hooked up with Kix Brooks to form the multiple Grammy award-winning country music duo, Brooks and Dunn. After the Marlboro contest, Slim Man released his debut CD End of the Rainbow. This CD made many Top Ten lists for the year, and inspired JD Considine (Rolling Stone) to write… | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 Marquise Knox w/ Lafayette Blues Band7:00 pm Blues $Ticketmaster cover Marquise Knox w/ Lafayette Blues BandFebruary 8, 2025 @ 7:00 pm Special Half Moon Inn Hotel Rate for GBS GuestsFor reservations in Humphreys Restaurant before the show ST. Lafayette Blues Band 2020: San Diego International Blues Competition (IBC) winner. Lafayette Falkquay doesn’t just play the Blues. The Blues plays him. He’s carries the music in his soul and sings it with the emotional depth that made Blues what it is. As Lafayette says, “You gotta get grown to play the blues. I think blues is an experience. It’s not just copying someone and playing licks. It’s finding that sound that comes from within you.” Lafayette was raised in Austin, TX where he began playing at a young age and then later played the local Austin circuit for many years. When he got to San Diego, he was quickly recognized as a rare and “real blues man” with his band Lafayette and The Lease Breakers. He now fronts the Lafayette Blues Band and continues his legacy of pure, passionate, down-home Texas-style blues. |
